Conquering the Blue RidgePosted by Jonathan Roth on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 11:17 pm
Winter. Cold temperatures, snow falling on the ground, ice building up on the roads, the sun obscured by overcast clouds for days. A perfect time to spend seven days nestled in a cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains. For this iteration of our yearly Training Camp, we established base camp in Nellysford, Virginia, a rural area at the base of Wintergreen Resort. Legendary climbs such as Reids Gap, Brents Gap, Campbells Mountain, Highway 56, and Love Road awaited us. Feeling out of shape and lethargic (well, me, at least) we explored some of the countryside during valley rides off the bat, and then went straight for the grueling climbs in the following days. Shoveling food in our mouths at an astonishing pace in between rides and sleeping, we sustained a surprising amount of energy throughout the trip (random bursts of laughter at the mention of the YouTube sensation "The Poptart Tragedy" come to mind.) Take a look below at some photo highlights.
